Air Guitar Flash Mob
So here we are in the middle of July 2012: schools have just broken up, excitement about the impending Big Sporty Thing is building and London is trying to squeeze as many festivals and summer events into one weekend as possible, because after this one apparently everybody’s bound to be distracted with holidays and Olympics.
However, thanks to these Olympics, yours truly has a (scarily short notice) commission to fulfill, so all he manages to get out of this particular weekend is a brief stroll around the South Bank, taking in the recently re-opened Jubilee Gardens and other traditional summer crowd pleasers.
An event he has learned about, though, is a flashmob happening locally. Now we know flashmobs are ten a penny these days and they no longer have the surprise factor they had in the early years of the century, but this one seemed a bit different: air guitars.
Now whether the organiser chose to site his gathering outside the Hayward Gallery specifically because of the Invisible exhibition on display there we don’t know. What we do know is that there didn’t appear to be vast enthusiasm amongst London’s air guitarists to join him. Game chap that he is, though, he carries on anyway (providing the conundrum – can you have a mob of one?).
