Alternative Fashion Week
Spitalfields, as everybody must know by now, has gone through something of a transformation since the beginning of the century, and as many who were there in the early days will tell you, not very much of what made the place so exciting then is still with us now [though there are better toilets these days…], the annual Alternative Fashion Week being one of them.
As part of Alternative Arts’ somewhat eclectic portfolio of cultural events, the fashion week showcased upcoming and student designers in an informal and open series of catwalk presentations, usually accompanied by a number of appropriately stylish stalls and a regular jazz band, these proved popular with style enthusiasts, local workers and, judging by the press area, plenty of photographers.
So it’s a little frustrating, that despite the number of snappers dutifully recording the colourful presentations, it’s proving quite difficult working out who some of these designers actually are. Well, I’ve managed to track down a couple who have managed to successfully develop their careers.
There might be a number of these in this project, so let’s start with one of the less obvious tunes…
Meanwhile, not far from here down by the river, it being the first day of Spring, the Druids are out at their usual haunt to welcome it. We’ll have more on that equally stylish gathering another day.
