Golden Jubilee Festival
2002, as we all remember, marked the 50th year of Her Maj’s taking over the reigns of the nation, so to speak, & so everybody (well, nearly everybody) jumped at the opportunity to dust off the old bunting & have a bit of a knees-up. Such was the occasion that we were even given a day off on a Tuesday.
Among the hundreds of events happening over the capital was the brief revival of the long-ago-banned Bartholomew Fayre in Smithfield. Not quite as riotous as it was then, sadly, but at least we get a tune out of it.
Eventually HRH & the folks came out onto the balcony to wave to her Loyal Subjects, Concorde flew over chased by a bunch of Red Arrows and everybody went home happy in the knowledge that there were only three days to work before the weekend.
