By the time this blog is complete, there’ll be a number of references to this annual gathering in Clerkenwell, being one of the more engaging and long-standing annual religious/migrant community gatherings in the calendar (as Peter Marshall would concur), so forgive me for using an image of a rare outing for the Bubble-Head family (nothing to do with this lot, incidentally) as the featured image of the day.
Nevertheless, you’ll find a few thousand first, second and third generation Italians making their way here each year for the annual ‘stations of the cross’ procession, along with the accompanying avenue providing regionally appropriate food, drink and, er, balloons.
Meanwhile, a ten-minute walk away, another local community is having its own annual get-together: the folk who live and work around the famed Whitecross Street Market near the Barbican here taking on a more contemporary approach to the idea of a street party, with lots of art, performance and music, and, no doubt, the odd balloon as well. So here’s a balloon song.
