Angel Canal Day Festival
Right, and here’s the first one, plucked from the Vintage Fillerys Tin by Kath’s old friend Lisa, who thought she was in town for a lunch & a catch-up & somehow ended up spending a couple of hours press-ganged into trimming a few hundred small prints for the Great Tile Sell-off.
This is the annual Canal Day festival, happening late summer on the picturesque waterway just south of bijou Islingtonland.
You’ll find a useful & informative history of the event on the festival’s website. It’s a popular & genuinely mixed community event, with, as the picture suggests, lots more to do than lark about on narrowboats, and has mostly been organized by the indefatigable Steve & Beryl over the past God Knows How Many Years. When this was taken, the area had yet to experience the gold rush frenzy of gleaming unaffordable apartment blocks that’s currently infecting the City Road – it’ll be interesting to see how that affects the demographic in years to come.
Meanwhile, there’s still plenty to enjoy, including the beautiful birds of prey from the Epping Forest Hawk & Owl Sanctuary, although, in this particular case, the sanguine handler appears totally oblivious to the trauma inflicted on her t-shirt by the intimidating presence of a great winged predator…

Meanwhile, later that day…
At least we know his assistant survived this particular encounter to live another day…
