Two contrasting ‘celebrations’ happening today, and both within a few hundred metres of each other – sadly one of them in retrospect proves to be somewhat depressingly premature, and, come to think of it, the other event’s optimistic message of global peace and harmony hasn’t quite managed to make the world a better place to live in just yet.
Social media, we rapidly discover, isn’t quite as useful when it comes down to establishing a healthy pluralistic democracy, as subsequent events have tragically demonstrated. Today, though, day spirits are high and celebrations carry on well into the night.
Meanwhile not that far away, the annual Valentine’s weekend Reclaim Love party is beginning to gather around Eros. However, because there are roadworks taking place around Piccadilly, it’d going to be very difficult for the centerpiece Circle of Love to take place here.
Venus, fortunately, has a plan, and the entire assembly ups sticks [and drums…] and heads down the road to Green Park, where a circle of [spiritually connected] plane trees provides the ideal setting for the grand chant.
And then after as much merrymaking here as the police will allow, it’s back to Eros for an equally late session of music and dance, some of which is provided by the estimable bunch, the Commie Faggots.
