Triumph Day, Ace Cafe
Stonebridge Park is hardly the most fashionable neighbourhood in North London (at the moment…), yet it contains one of the coolest café-bars in town, particularly if you’re into leather. No, not that type of leather – we’re talking bikes here & naturally we’re talking the Ace Café.
Once a magnet for rebellious youth types in the 1950s, it closed in 1969. Enthusiast Mark Wilsmore together with members of the 59 Club organised a reunion in 1994, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Part of the cafes great appeal is its daily themed gatherings – no matter what type of classic bike or car (we’re talking rock’n’roll culture here) your particular enthusiasm is, there will be a day for you.
Triumph (that rare thing in this country – a successful British vehicle manufacturer) naturally has a massive fan base & its own gatherings. This fellow is a Thunderbird, not a vintage one, of course, but lovingly cared for nonetheless (and don’t think I’m shallowly predictable enough to put in a link to a certain TV programme of the same name. Oh bugger).
